Is stress limiting your progress? I wanted to share 6 signs your stress is limiting your progress, whether that’s getting fit and strong, losing body fat, or addressing the hot topic of “longevity.” Stress significantly impacts our immune system, digestion, nutrition, energy, and pain.
- Your body hurts! Or you keep feeling that tightness, thinking you “just need to stretch more.” But it doesn’t seem to disappear.
- Frequent GI issues. Heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, and increased stomach aches are all symptoms of stress.
- Workouts are SO difficult. Stress hinders your ability to recover, making your training feel impossible.
- You’re struggling with your weight and/or appetite. Stress disrupts ghrelin and leptin, which regulate our hunger and satiety. This can increase cravings, or decrease appetite.
- You keep getting sick! Chronic stress can cause systemic inflammation as our white blood cell levels drop. Metabolic diseases can result for this same reason, like diabetes and heart disease.
- You’re feeling foggy, and maybe a little more reactive or irritable than normal.
If you relate to the one or more of the above, it may be time to check in on your stress levels. Proper stress management is just as important as working out or fueling your body. Ways to practice stress management are making time for your favorite hobbies, scheduling time to wind down and decompress, speaking to a therapist, practicing yoga or meditation, and journaling- just to name a few. Stress management looks different for each person and it is important to choose something you enjoy.
